Gone but not forgotten, Carroll Shelby honed the muscle car era and helped Ford dominate the 60′s race scene with his British born, American powered AC Cobra, aka the ‘Shelby Cobra’ and the Classic Mustang GT350 and GT500 series. More recently, Shelby went on to build cars like the Dodge Viper and was a major influence on the all new 662 hp (ZR-1 eating) 200mph GT500 Mustang.

Carroll Shelby died on May 10, 2012 at the age of 89.He had been suffering from a serious heart ailment for decades.Joe Conway, president of Carroll Shelby International, said that “we are all deeply saddened, and feel a tremendous sense of loss for Carroll’s family, ourselves and the entire automotive industry. There has been no one like Carroll Shelby and never will be. However, we promised Carroll we would carry on, and he put the team, the products and the vision in place to do just that.”

Thank you Carroll Shelby for your influence in classic cars and muscle car history. You will be missed but never forgotten!

The 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 was completely misconstrued. Their particular engine was thought to be one that could win out in a race with the Chevy Corvette, but it couldn’t. It wasn’t able to do as well on the racetracks or in the eyes of consumers that wanted the fastest out there. (more…)
